This piece burns with raw exhaustion, that feeling when love turns to smoke and the echoes of “enough” linger longer than the fire itself. The rhythm is almost musical — grief masquerading as defiance. This one sounds like the south end of a relationship. The speaker comes across as one who has borne much from a partner of longstanding. It appears the last straw has been drawn. No more roses here.
