"
Loneliness sounds
like wind singing
through cracked elm branches
in autumn’s bleak light.

Sadness tastes
like cold tea"no honey, no sugar"
bitter scraping the back of the throat.

Hope smells
like six-week-old puppies
slurping mother’s milk
in the sun.

Joy feels
like bare feet on prickly grass
after a fierce spring storm.

Memory looks
like streetlights bleeding
into oil-slicked puddles
at two in the morning.

Loneliness, Sadness, Hope, Joy, Memory. Nicely written. I have entered my seventh decade and I can’t help but feel all those emotions are amplified in old age. Thanks for the poem addressing each.

What of love? I would have enjoyed one more Thomas Case stanza addressing love. Weird coincidence, I am listening to Spotify and Joni Mitchell is singing “I really don’t know love at all.”

Well framed poem about the human emotions here Thomas...

This was my favourite stanza:

Hope smells
like six-week-old puppies
slurping mother’s milk
in the sun.

Thanks for sharing this one...

Thank you. Much appreciated.
Let me add one: Stupidity feels like voting for a sociopath and then doing it again.
