great analogies. reminds me of my teen years going out fishing with my neighbor for the day. puking over the side of the boat until i got sea legs. i remember the feeling of not being quite sure where we were and how to get back - that alone will rock you and make you feel like vomiting.
I hate those dreams, nightmares really, of searching, searching, searching for a destination and never finding it. For you a marina. For me, more often than not, a men’s restroom. I wander an alien city or the basement bowels of my old college campus, desperate to pee. At least in my dreams I have no nephew that I must entertain, no nephew misdirecting the search. I need not dream in metaphors nor similes; I’m just a guy who really needs to pee.
A wonderful write of growth and development where what was once needed is no longer and can be discarded. You are free to sail without it. Nicely done Thomas
I'm no shrink, but it sounds as though the boat is symbolic of something important in your life. At first you had it under control, fishing in the ocean. Then you needed a leash as you searched for a marina. The longer the boat was on the leash, the smaller it got, until it got to be the size of a toy, after which you threw it in the trash. It seems to me this dream is about the loss of something important, a disappointment. You will receive my bill for counseling shortly.
