Heart at Home

Heart at Home

A Poem by Elias Kovats

A little boy from small town nowhere
Was sent to find his courage else where
He left his heart at home as a promise to return
But how strong he needed to be he'd soon learn
He kissed his home good bye
Not a tear in his eye
Because he'd find the strength to come back home
Even if he came back alone
Beaten never broken
These words were heard spoken
Don't make a promise I can't keep.
For my heart you may keep
But yours may be gone.
But make it I will
And hope you also still
Will be there when I'm home
