Regret

Old poem from 2008

If I could only go back
And live a second time
My eyes would open clearly
The world would grow sublime

If I could go back
And throw away regret
I would not look down
On love I'll now forget

You hope so much for things uncertain
But then once they come
Pain becomes superior
As your wishes now grow numb

If I could go back
I wouldn't mind the day
I'd wake to embrace the light
And toss the dark away

My sun has set
Though it's too late
I'll pray for dawn
Not broken fate
