A Poem by Taylor Lane
"

left behind. forgotten. unnoticed

"
Not something active or that which I befall
I simply am that person that they don't recall
The lists I am left off of and the people I don't see, they all have that in common,
That they have forgotten me
That is their excuse
To assuage my pain
Now I am the forgotten one, with a common face and fading name
I shout to fill the voids and prove that I exist
Yet in times when I am gone I am never missed
A sad and silent serenade
A dull and dim yet endless pain
Unknown unwanted uninvited
Not quite yet it is so
I've never made an enemy, for many, of me, they don't know
I am the desk that is left empty
The setting left unsat
A text that never got to sending
That story you never bothered ending
The sweater you don't remember lending
I lurk in the background of your mind hidden deep within plain sight
You say that you know me but how can that be true
When my role is insignificant and I mean nothing to you
And no I am not begging
To be heard or loved or seen
I am simply sharing
What it feels like to be me
An answer to a question you never cared to ask
So now must be positive at least that's what shrinks say
The best that I can muster, yet is still not too great
So now I try to tell myself
Maybe I do sometimes cross your mind
But then that little voice reminds
And then as every time before
I'm sure the thought fades fast
