pretty isn't beautifulA Poem by Taylor Lanehe isn't enough because he isn't youi have found someone different but somehow that’s not enough he says to me sweet nothings and my skin warms against his touch but his diction, not quite strong as yours and me without those butterflies that came every time i saw your name the idea of him is tantalizing and i try my best to fall yet here i am secretly praying for your voice when he calls he is not a disappointment but yet he isn’t you his words are not so charming his eyes a different hue how can that make him not enough, not being the one who left as he is standing before me a different face plays in my head he calls me pretty and amazing but thats not beautifully complex this life is so unfair to me making me yearn for you he could be someone to me but he cannot be you his complexion lacks your smile i search for you in his face i watch him fill in where you left i let him hold your place i put my all in you, found a life for us to lead the piece of me still there in you makes him not enough for me his hands are brisk and firm but i still think of yours and picture them, so soft and warm, wrapped tightly around mine his shirt smells of cologne which makes me wonder if i could inhale the smell of you but god why do i want your hand in mine or your lips against my shin when i am being wooed and wanted by someone like him you are not just the one who left, but the one that got away so why then must i yearn for you over the one who is willing to stay
