The Man Eaters

The Man Eaters

A Story by Sarah

One lonely night a Russian captain was sent out to explore uncharted waters. However, this area has been know to have a curse upon it and so many did not have the bravery to attempt this voyage.  there have been legends of mystical fogs and flesh eating mermaids. the name of this brave soul is Anton;he has been known to try and conquer several other beasts. He had tried to conquer the dragons the tore off his arm to a small stump. he has lost an eye trying to conquer the yetti. this brave man is peglegged and still has a thrill for danger. Many people have called him a fool ,because he will be out of his element and that he will have to go against more than one ferocious beast. the mermaids had a melody that would enchant even the most lonely of souls. He just claims that no beast should overcome him and that he is unable to die. that is where he is wrong. The people unwillingly gave him a huge elaborate party that would be talked about for decades. this is where the voyage begins

Mr. Anton was just about to enter the harbor when a mysterious bird came flying on to his shoulder,dropped a note and flew away.  he read the note and it said:

Beware on to where you will be going. strange thing be lurking in your path,

turn now or forever be haunted, and your family cursed. if you do not heed our warning you will be sentenced to a short miserable life.

After he read the note he threw the paper in to the water not noticing a mark on his hand. and threw the paper in to the water.  As the paper landed on the water a black curse spread throughout the water. From that point on his journey is cursed. Anton started to feel weak as he was sailing off. he tried to shake it off as he was just bothered by the note.  but deep down he was scared. He knew that the fear would be used against him and that he will be killed if he doesn’t fight that fear. So as he got weaker he got farther. As he got farther the waters got rougher.  he wasn't able to control the ship very well and he looked out upon the waters and noticed the water was black as a  pit  of  tar.  He looked up in the pitch black inky  sky, and saw crows circling the  masts and he could hear the Caw,caw,caw of the crows hovering over his ship. as time passed the waters got worse, and the skies blacker. eventually the  sound of the crows  became full of acrimony and then through the  crowed of crows,the same bird came back and left another note:

This is your last chance turn back now or die, look at your left hand,you will never finish this journey alive! Take our warning, this journey is a death mission, turn back now and leave us alone!

He looked down at his hand and saw it dripping with a black thick substance oozing from the center of his hand. He had thought it to be just water because he was soaked from the waves. He was ever so wrong about that assumption. After he read the note, he noticed that the bird was still on his shoulder and this time  he was staying. Anton tried to shoo him off the best that  he could. A few times he could swear that  the bird could start talking to him. He began to think that  it was just the poison entering his system. As they got closer then the waters became so intense that Anton thought that the ship would tip over.

As soon as they reached the uncharted waters, the bird spoke abruptly,

“ We are there, we have arrived in the land of the lost. “

Anton was confused and was trying to distinguish whether or not  he was losing his mind. So Anton asked it;

“did you just speak?”

all the bird said in reply was ;

“We are there,we have arrived in the land of the lost.”

Anton was trying to connect  what was happening. through that he could hear the majestic song from the side of the ship. He goes to the side of the ship and goes to see   what the beautiful sound was, that is when he saw them. he saw what he thought couldn’t have been possible. he saw the mermaids. he thought to himself;

“how could such beautiful creatures be so harmful?”

As Anton went to the side of the ship to lower himself to the  waters edge to try and communicate with the beautiful creature. All the while the bird did not leave  Anton’s shoulder.The bird started to speak;

“ Cation! (squawking the whole time.) don’t let the beauty of the lost  souls! they are never as promising as you may wish! cover your ears close your  eyes, let them pass do not fall for the tricks of the tricked, tricked once louered again. no turning back! into the depths you will go! feasts of the forever hungry! now now before its too late! run and  hide wait for the terror to pass i say go and hide!”

“Shut up you dumb bird and go away! i will not listen to your  non stop babel!  I will not  do as you say this creature is so beautiful and pure. Surely you are mistaken you pathetic waste of time! I’m going down there and talking to her.”

The bird grips harder to Anton’s shoulder and then releases flying down to the mermaid. and started speaking a whole different language that he has ever heard. then all of a sudden the bird goes psychotic. not because of whatever the mermaid said but what the bird saw. He saw the outline  of the  what he started chanting:

“lost! lost! it’s the lost land! Run! Run! Never return! while you still can!”

Then suddenly the waters calmed and then a strong pull took over the ship, the pull was too strong and the boat was  torn in half. Anton was thrown into the  sea along the islands coast. The mermaids swarmed him and Enamored him. That is how the great  Anton the monster killer ended his life. Died by  enticing beauty and a lust that drove him to his death.
