Let Go

I am letting go after all this time
The weight of your love has shifted
Like your heart, my hands are calloused
But my spirits have been lifted

Holding on so tight
to what was sure to fall
Gave me all my grip
once I realized it all

A part of me may have fallen
but the rest of me stands tall
Looking down at you now
buried beneath your own wall

I climbed mountains for you
I scaled the bricks and the blows
I climbed my way to hold on to
a lesson I suppose...

All poetry is personal. Even when written tightly on a theme given by others. It comes from our experience and our feelings. This piece is written simple expressing very complicated feelings. Yes, sometimes all we take from an experience, a love, a relationship is a lesson. Thank you for sharing and I'm happy to be your friend.

clearly a very personal write. I like the linkage of calloused hands and heart in the first stanza...beyond that, the imagery is tentative - largely, I would guess, because this piece is so personal and often times pieces like these don't delve into the imagery as much or rely as heavily on detailed metaphors. If i'm critiquing as a piece of art you would like to improve, I would look in those areas to create a stronger bond between the work and your audience. If I'm viewing this solely as a piece which is personal to you, I think you did an artful job of relaying where you are at. Hope that helps!

what i try to do with pieces like these is let them rest for a while and then come back when I can think it through from other angles....sometimes i rework the entire piece, other times I will pull out a line or two to begin an entirely new piece. i'm not at all stating you need to rewrite this - only that sometimes work like this can help you create - which, in the end, is a great way to put the pain to work ;)
