day 14 - sheffield
A Poem by valerie
inspired by everything terrible that's happened in april up to date.
april, your casualties are endless
the titanic's maiden voyage turned out to be its fateful farewell the ninety-six at hillsborough squeezed between gated palms the final breaths of my grandparents as their lives skidded to a halt while i sat in a desk when i was twelve years old praying for just one more day, one more day, one more day
may, your flowers will grow to be miracles after this downpour

okay, i need a lot of help with this one. i love the first and last lines, but not the middle so much. i don't feel like it sufficiently expresses the horrible things that happen in april and yet i feel like if i cut it out it will lose any of its...authenticity? i don't know. i also am not entirely comfortable with my line for the 96 because i obviously was not there and i don't want to offend anyone who was involved somehow by either downplaying or overreacting to it. so any and all constructive crit would be SO great. thanks so much :)
