Soft Thoughts

A young lady cannot sleep, for thoughts of the one she loves floats through her mind all night.

It's a late hour in the cool night,

I gaze at my dark ceiling, tired,

but I can not sleep,

because of you.

I don't want my thoughts of you to be gone,

how I wish you would visit me in my dreams,

then I would come to sleep sweetly...

Closing my eyes,

I'm in a secret place,

alone in your embrace,

the silence only broken by the steady tick-tock of the clock,

I imagine it as your heartbeat if you were laying here next to me.

There wouldn't be any exchange in words,

for love needs no language to express itself,

our hearts understand each other,

I look into your eyes for they speak the world to me,

your soft touch caring, 

I'm safe in your arms as your tender warmth consumes me

as we fall into a deep sleep,

Oh! How I wish this moment never ends!

Alas, I open my eyes back to the dark night,

where I lay alone,

and my thoughts are with hope,

though you and I are apart,

we share the same dream..

I really couldn't sleep last night and I wrote this describing myself exactly how I felt in the moment. Yes, it is my first go at a love poem so please share you thoughts and criticism! enjoy:)
