A Woman like You

A Woman like You

A Poem by Vic Frederick

I bear the resemblance of all those before me

Traces of their being flow through my veins

Some give me vision and great inner strength

While others account for my pains

But no one before me defines me or leads me
Nor casts out a shadow to darken my will
I stand on my own with my own reputation
Of taking just action when others are still

And all that I am and still yet to be
Is owed to the love that once saved me from me
The love that sustained me through all of the years
I struggled and fought to survive my worst fears

Emerging at last as the man God intended
Not perfect; but perfectly true
To the task of becoming a man more deserving
Of loving a woman like you

This has great lyrical quality as evidenced by the sturcture and flow. I wonder why you chose the rhyme scheme: abcb abcb aabb abcd. I expected aabb in the last stanza, but nothing is lost in the lack of rhyme.
The message is strong and clear.

Great poem, Vic!

This is wonderful. I like the flow and the height of it. . .
