THE GAME OF FATE

THE GAME OF FATE

A Story by Lucky

One boring summer day Fate went out to look for a game to entertain herself as she was bored with the monotony of life on earth as well as in the almighty heaven and in her search came across her favorite- The game of Romance and with a clap of thunder it began.

Paula sat on her bed and waited for the phone to ring. He had promised to call her in 15 minutes but hadn't called for two hours now.  Her anger seared and she threw her phone across the room and she noticed how the pieces of the phone looked like the pieces of her heart.

She cried out of anger, she cried out of grief and pain but mostly she cried for the growing hole of nothingness inside her in the place of her heart and the lonely feeling that slowly crept over her. She acknowledged that her relationship was in shreds, finished to every extent as she was done with being ignored and kept waiting. now she stood alone and fragile in a world full of hatred and skepticism.

Nonetheless she settled with the feeling all the time preparing herself for the harsh reality that would stare at her forever and unforgiving forever from the day forth. So, though she cried, she steeled herself with every tear and grew stronger with every sob. She decided to leave behind this life, her friends, the hurt and pain to move forward, find new goals to achieve and a new path to walk on.

With the will of iron she flew thousand miles to live by herself, to learn, to grow, to achieve but mostly to walk away from this sorrow of the heart. She threw herself into work so as not to wallow in self pity. She accomplished the goals she set and grew to be known to attain whatever she willed to. But when she was by herself she was still the same lonely girl masking the pain that tore at her heart at every second of everyday. And no matter how hard she tried, no matter how strong Paula grew to be her past still followed, the heartbreak still bled through her soul.

But Fate wasn't satisfied with the game so with a simple flick of her finger and a mischievous smile she shook the world. That very night the clouds thundered and the winds changed again with the world sleeping without noticing the changes in Fates plans.

The next day started as usual for the world but it wouldn't end the same for some.

As Paula rushed to work to escape the haunting memories in her closet she collided with someone. loosing their balance both fell to the ground. Their eyes met and recognized each other though they never wished to meet again but still agonized every second willing to catch a glimpse of the other someday somewhere. Bewildered the two got to their feet, their eyes not daring to look away and the only words that left the man's lips were "My world stood still since you walked out of it."

And Fate walked away looking for a new place, a new face and a new game.
