Echoes unheardA Poem by Tendai"A tree that weathers the storm alone develops roots that no wind can shake."
The sun sets behind the kopje but doesn’t warm me,
A man built of brick and dust, Expected to stand to the pillar while my own foundation is cracking. I whispered for a hand to hold in the dark, Just a shadow to sit beside me, quiet and true. But the words were turned until my pain became a mirror for your own smile. Is it a crime to be tired? To be small? In this land, one’s heart is a hidden thing, Buried deep under the 'sharp-sharp' and the 'I’m okay.' I reached out for a lifebuoy but was handed a task, am I a fool to think the rain falls to quench my thirst? When it only falls to wash the dust off someone else’s porch. The silence is heavy, but it is mine. © 2026 Tendai |
