Rainclouds on a Sunny Afternoon

 

Under the Bodhi tree

butterfly wings

lost dreams and shattered hope

morphine drips, carnival barkers, dancing bears

rock candy, stained bedsheets, and trembling hands

forgotten dreams of better things

as the mockingbird laughs and sings

about fractured memories of a dying man

in a war-torn land.
