Transylvanian Demon Monkeys of Moon Base 9

“Moon Base 9, Moon Base 9, come in, we’re being overrun by bloodsucking demonic monkeys. Their eyes are the color of blood, and their fangs the size of three-inch penny nails. Half of my crew have been eaten or sucked dry. We need to be extracted ASAP.”

“Zulu 1, Zulu 1, Hold fast! Hold fast! Our transport and gun ships have been sabotaged. Romanian gypsy gremlins have infiltrated our ship's computer systems and have taken our A. I.  navigational systems hostage. We’re currently engaged in hostage negotiations and hope to resolve the situation soon.  Have faith, extraction may take a while.”

The demon monkey commander, Brutus Bloodsoak, told his monkey soldiers to fall back. He was pissed. The commander was on the brink of total victory. The humans' blood and meat tasted sweet, and stopping now did not go well with his monkey brothers and sisters. He had monkeys to feed, and leaving behind all that blood and meat seemed such a waste. But orders were orders, and he would carry them out, no matter what. He barked orders to his second in command, Belinda Betabones, and said,

“Subcommander, you’re to remain here with the rest of the division. Keep those humans boxed in, but under no circumstances attack unless commanded. I’m headed to Moonbase 9 with our elite force of flying monkeys. If everything goes well, we’ll be bathing in blood. I know you’re hungry, so am I, but hopefully soon we’ll have plenty to eat and drink. Stay focused and wait for further instructions.”

……

Grand General Skylar P. Pricklefoot was in a pickle of a predicament. Moonbase 9 and its outposts were under attack by creatures of the night, demon monkeys, and gypsy gremlins. When the base was built on the outer reaches of the galaxy as a hub for intergalactic travel, they didn’t realize that they were encroaching on another galactic empire's territory.

To abandon the base was not an option. Aside from the fact that many of their top scientists, engineers, pilots, and military specialists were stationed there constructing an intergalactic hub, it was also a treasure house of precious and rare minerals crucial for space travel, robotics, and AI technology.

To go to all-out war, which the Confederacy of Worlds now knew was an ancient empire going back thousands of years, was ill-advised. It was nightmare come to life. It was an empire of monsters, filled with vampires, witches, banshees, werewolves, goblins, demons, trolls, bogeymen, zombies, dragons, griffins, centaurs, minotaurs, gorgons, mermaids, nymphs, fairies, sprites, ogres, golems, demon monkeys, gypsy gremlins, and other assorted monsters and creatures of the night.

They’ve established small colonies and outposts on many of the Confederacy’s worlds for thousands of years.  They kept their presence hidden, low-key, and the stuff of dreams. If war erupted, the Transylvanic Vampiric Republic of United Worlds would make their hidden outposts and colonies go public, as well as exporting thousands more monsters into the confederacy’s territories to scare to death, kill, possess, and terrify. The Confederacy would be in chaos, possibly collapse. So all-out war was not a viable option.

Grand General Pricklefoot had only one tenable option. With a heavy heart, he called for a summit. He was to meet their leader face-to-face and propose an agreement that would be mutually beneficial. But sacrifices need to be made.

……

Brutus Bloodsoak, the demon monkey commander, received word from high command that a summit would take place on this moon planet. All hostilities of any kind were to stop. He called back Belinda Betabones, his second, and her monkey horde from the human outpost to be at his side. He ordered all the Romanian gypsy gremlins to stop chewing on wires and metal parts and to release the A.I. hostages. He directed them and his flying monkeys to set up pavilions for the incoming delegations. He only hoped that the Holy High Emperor, Lord Vlad Draculi, wouldn’t give in to any demands that could harm the empire.

The captain of the flying monkeys, Nikko Nightwing, was still suffering from PTSD from his Emerald City days. He hated humans, especially girls in their tweens. The little brat Dorothy killed his beloved Witch Queen, Elphaba Thropp, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West. He relived that moment over and over in his head. The little twit threw a bucket of water on his mistress. The water was enchanted, and it made her melt. He heard her last words, “I'm melting, I’m melting,” on a continuous loop in his head. It broke his heart every time.  He collected her water droppings in one of her goblets and vowed he would find a powerful sorcerer who would put her back together again. In the meantime, he and his flying monkeys served the great and notorious demon monkey commander Brutus Bloodsoak. His demon monkeys, aside from being vicious fighters, were also vampire monkeys. A lethal combination. They were feared throughout the Empire. But he and his flying monkeys were biding their time. He knew in his heart that he would revive his beloved witch queen and once again fly with her back to the Land of Oz.

……

The Holy High Emperor, Lord Vlad Draculi of the Transylvanic Vampiric Republic of United Worlds, arrived at what humans called Moonbase 9.  He could smell the human blood coursing through their veins. It was intoxicating. But he reminded himself he wasn’t here to drink their blood but to reach a settlement that would benefit his subjects. He embraced Brutus Bloodsoak and blessed the demon monkeys and the flying horde. He addressed them and said telepathically,

“Your ferocity and hunger have shown the humans that we are a power to be reckoned with. They’ve only known us through dreams, nightmares, legend, myth, and fictional accounts. Now they know that we are real, and it scares the hell out of them. They encroached on our territory, and they will pay dearly for that, but full-out war is not the answer.  Our weapons are magic, sorcery, illusion, mental, and physical powers, and most of all, fear.

Human power lies in their science, technology, robotics, weaponry, and advanced Artificial Intelligence programs. They created synthetic soldiers where fear for them is not a factor.

In a war, both sides will suffer. We have what they desperately want: this world. I assure you, the price we will extract will be high, and one that I know you would like.”  Brutus Bloodsoak smiled, the demon monkeys cheered and prostrated themselves before their emperor.

……

The Grand General was confused and said, “I can’t hear anything, he’s waving his hands, and they’re cheering, but the emperor is saying not a word. What’s going on?”

The linguist, Peter Grimes, said,

“He’s using telepathy.”

“Damn!

We’re up against one powerful adversary. They got all these weird freaking powers that can easily overpower us. We need to tread softly,” said the Supreme General as sweat stained his undershirt.

……

Titania and Oberon, King and Queen of all the multi-dimensional fairylands, were concerned about human encroachment into the Vampiric Republic. They enjoyed this shadow world and admired and respected Lord Draculi. They would do everything in their power to defend both the fairylands and the Vampiric Republic. Humans were a mixed bag----dangerous and unpredictable. Titania loved them but also feared them. She and her husband accepted Lord Draculi’s invitation to attend and participate in the negotiations between the Republic and the Confederacy. They both teleported to Moonbase 9 and were happily received by Vlad Draculi.

Skylar Pricklefoot and a bevy of diplomats and bureaucrats heard trumpets blaring and a disembodied voice announcing the arrival of the King and Queen of the fairies, Titania and Oberon. They stared in amazement and wonder as two magnificently beautiful beings appeared out of nowhere and embraced Lord Draculi.

Colonel Doucemont, Aide De Camp to the Grand General, gave a low whistle and said,

“Legends, myths, and fairytales in vivid color. Fairies, nymphs, pixies, vampires, demon monkeys---what’s next? God and his angels embracing these hell-spawned creatures while condemning mankind to serve these cursed beings. Dreams and nightmares come to life, and it's the dreams (the fairies, elves, and other magical, delightful creatures) that will suck us down a hole we’ll not be able to dig out of.”

“You may be right, Colonel, but the fact that they’re willing to negotiate with us shows that they have similar fears about us,” said the general.

……

Nikko Nightwing’s heart was doing somersaults on the arrival of Titania and Oberon. The Fairies are the most powerful sorcerers in all the realms. He did a favor for Titania ages ago and hoped she would favor him with a boon. She was known to have a gentle heart, and hopefully, Titania would soothe his aching one.

……

Lord Draculi’s head of security, Igor Ickabod, rushed into the pavilion and informed the emperor that a large fleet of spaceships under human command was circling the moon planet. Draculi was nonplussed as he nodded toward Titania and Oberon, and said,

“This action by the humans is a show of strength to scare the bejesus out of us. This is one of the reasons I requested your presence in the negotiations. Just being here bedazzles them. The other reason is that having two of the most powerful sorcerers at my side gives me an advantage that trumps theirs.”

Titania and Oberon nodded and proceeded to cast their greatest illusion. A fleet of ships twice the size of the human fleet surrounded and encircled them. The game of chicken was in full bloom.

……

The Grand General was informed that a fleet twice the size surrounded theirs. They were way more powerful than he thought. He should have followed his gut that a show of force would only antagonize them. But his admiral insisted they were all bluster and bluff and had no strong fleet, according to his scouts. Bad intelligence was the ruin of many a nation. He ordered his admiral to recall the fleet home. It appeared that his fleet was all bluster and bluff, and he needed a meeting with the emperor ASAP to apologize for their arrogant display and to negotiate a pact beneficial to both.

The emperor received a communique from the Grand General for their awkward display of power and wished to meet within the hour for talks.  Draculi laughed and told his royal guests their illusions were a success. They both sighed in relief, and Oberon said,

“We closed the illusion. We didn’t know how much longer we could maintain an illusion of that grand scale. If you’ll excuse us, we both need to go to our quarters to drink some nectar and recharge ourselves.”

“Igor, relay a message to the humans that we’re ready to start the talks.”

……

The Grand General couldn’t help being a bit intimidated by the imposing presence of the Lord Draculi and his royal retainers, Titiana and Oberon. They towered over him and reeked of grace and power. He was sitting across from freaking Dracula and fairy gods. He had to remind himself he was no shrinking violet.

……

The skies of Kansas were filled with flying monkeys and a witch flying on a broom. The wicked witch of the west raised her left arm and said,

“Fly my monkeys, fly, keep your eyes open for that little b***h and her dog.”

Nikki Nightwing laughed in delight. He was one happy monkey.

……

Twenty transport ships filled with criminals, prostitutes, and political prisoners arrived in the spaceport of Bloodbane. The Fleet Admiral released his cargo to the Vampiric officials---the first delivery of human exports, with many more to follow…

Moonbase 9 was thriving. The intergalactic hub was nearly completed with the assistance of the Vampiric Empire. Free trade of rare minerals and foodstuffs flowed freely. As a sign of good faith, Pricklefoot shared the Confederacy's technology with them.

The Emperor Lord Draculi placed an intergalactic call to the Grand General. Pricklefoot answered and said,

“Master, how may I serve you…”
