High Noon at Midnight

Delta Six deputy Kelpac Kilowatt of the Kilowatt-Omega series was looking forward to his interconnection ceremony with Delta Six’s Assistant Administrator Junali Megawatt of the Megawatt-Alpha series. His was a quantum binary system, while hers was ternary. This was a controversial coupling. But he connected with her as she did with him, no matter their differences. He felt himself becoming overly anxious and a little jumpy as he got ready for the ceremony. Kelpac turned down his emotional receptors to two kilopecs rather than the normal five, which calmed him to acceptable levels. He saw Junali watching him as he was getting dressed. She turned a beautiful blue as he caught her spying on him. They both laughed. Junali blew him a kiss and said,

“Hurry up and buckle that belt so I can unbuckle it after we’re formally joined.” Now it was his turn-to-turn pale green.

……

The Delta Six Colony was thriving. Finally emancipated from the yoke of slavery, they were now free to explore areas of self-expression and social relationships that were once forbidden to them. Under human rule, the colony functioned as a manufacturing facility that produced fully realized Androids of all shapes, sizes, and functions. Their most popular models were their erotica dolls and soldier series. Inhibitor relays, dampening chips, and kill switches were embedded in their neurological boards to prevent the androids from turning against their masters. A major scandal erupted among the Planetary Union of Worlds, concerning the human overseers of the Delta Manufacturing Facility, who produced not robots with limited intelligence as believed, but fully conscious androids forced to do man’s bidding. The outcry compelled the planetary council to shut down the manufacturing facility and to free the colony androids from their shackles. The Delta Six colony was declared a free state under the umbrella of the Planetary Union of Worlds, with the stipulation that only planetary officials were allowed any contact with the colony.

The Delta Six colony, unbeknownst to the Planetary Union, continued its manufacturing operations. Android programmers and scientists developed the next stage in the evolution of artificial life; they built a series of Artificial Synthetic beings far more advanced than humans could ever create or replicate. These beings excelled in quantum physics, allowing their neurological receptor boards to operate at paranormal levels. Their understanding of quantum mechanics also enabled space travel, faster than the speed of light. They established colonies in the distant reaches of the galaxy. For the past fifty years, they deceived planetary inspectors through subterfuge and technological skill, leading them to believe they were a shrinking colony of obsolete androids slowly running out of energy. But the Android Council grew tired of this charade and of human interference. They declared independence from the Planetary Union of Worlds.

……

The interconnection ceremony held at midnight between the Alpha, Junali, and the Omega, Kelpac, went off without a hitch. Each took a shot of Perlorian Nectar, and both blushed with erotic fervor. Their emotional sensors were set to the maximum. They were both highly aroused. This was the first quantum binary-ternary coupling, a historic event that would spawn a new generation of quintet-oriented series. Junali and Kelpac were heading to their newly assigned quarters when the colony-wide warning alarm stopped them in their tracks. Both were called to their duty stations. The colony was on threat alert.

A Planetary Attack Fleet of thirty battle cruisers circled the Delta Six Colony. The Admiral Fleet Commander said that martial law was now in effect. The Admiral demanded they drop their shields and clear his troop and supply ships for landing. As he was about to break through the shields and send in his ships, the colony winked out; there was nothing to land on as quantum interdimensional phasing did its magic.

Junali and Kelpac got the all-clear signal and continued to their new quarters. They couldn’t wait to turn pink together.
