(82) The End

(82) The End

A Poem by Chris Smith Welshpoetcs

The people slept, dreaming.
Silently the World was screaming.
The Universe was reaching out,
No one heard the silent shout.
Even dark forces could not pretend,
That things were coming to an end.

And twenty billion souls came awake,
As they witnessed the Universe break.
They could hear a distant rumble,
As suddenly Galaxies would crumble.
The end would take all, everywhere,
The end was coming for everyone there.

Beings gathered together from every World.
The end came, they were ready and curled.
Holding each other, all were a different kind.
Stars ended and there was nothing to find,
Poets cried and found the words to write.
And the end came with a blinding light.

At least it was instant death for all beings. I always feel like chicken little yelling to everyone that the end is truly coming but not the end of the world or universe just the end to technology and mass consumption of oil. I think when the world ends we will already be dust on the surface of the earth.

I think your poem takes a quick look into what it could be like in the end, maybe by then we would have confirmed or denied the existence of other intelligent life, maybe we would have found a way to break the speed of light or maybe it will be like it is now. I do agree that when the time comes poets will be still writing from their hearts. Nice write.

I love the dramatic images you've created. The last few lines were the most impressive to me. Great poem, Chris!!

I like the sense of the ultimate in this, the sense of the anguish behind life's ordinariness. It's something I often struggle to express as well!

This was great Chris! This embodies the ultimate fear of humanity. what I really like about this poem is the ideas that "souls came awake", like that shock and awe enlightenment, where all the war mongering and bullsh*t of a lifetime would just be dropped, because of the futility of it. It's strange, but I think there would be a great moment of unity in an end time, total destruction scenerio . Probably the only point in time that a total peace could happen. This is a favorite of mine for shure!
