Sleeping Beauty, Silent Beauty

Sleeping Beauty, Silent Beauty

A Poem by Wesley Dingler

It's a common misconception
that everything will go wrong.
I've learned this from our union,
which has made us both strong.

Just this moment,
as I am awake and I watch you sleep,
encamped in your silent sonnet,
and dreaming so beautiful and deep,

I begin to see,
and I come to understand
just what beauty is among man,
when it finds rest in this wicked world.

And I cannot describe,
nor can I seem to fit into rhyme,
just what I feel when I
look upon you on these nights.

When I gaze upon your silent beauty
I wonder how I
(how could I ever)
come to be so deserving
at all?

Perhaps, it can be misdirection
that sometimes shows us the nobler path.
Perhaps, some can only see the correct one
upon analyzing the mistakes of their past--

as I am now.
Upon analyzing all we've been through,
I'd go through it all again somehow,
just to be able to lie here with you.

I begin to see,
and I come to understand
just what faith is among man,
as I lay wakeful beside this faithful girl.
