A Poem by Wilyem Clark

Until you have mastered mathematics,
Astronomy, kinetics, and atomical nature,
And have probed the whole cosmos top to bottom--
Macro, middlemost, and micro--
Do not dare to enter the labyrinth
Of metaphysics,
Deem yourself worthy to speak for divinities,
Rank yourself so saintly an agent
As to commend, proscribe, or prescribe
Impositions on fellow mortals,
Judgments allegedly drafted in heaven;
Nor trust the word of those who claim
To know a deity, God or gods;
For men are deceivers throughout all ages,
From antiquity to present day.
They bend the truth to fit their needs:
No verity is safe from them.
