Seclusion

Seclusion

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

The snow imprisons us
In improvised forts
Of drifts and piles and a wounding wind.
We burrow deep and refuge in
Our badger bunkers.
Armies of snowfolk--
Stick-boned, lopskulled--
Lay siege; their soulless black eyes
And rotund tummies
Give us nightmares.
O, for an ally
To tunnel in, to warm us up;
A tropical bear with velvet fur
And a sunny disposition
To melt the frigid caves at night,
Ignite the kindling in the morn,
And growl away the effigies of winter.
