"The First Sight"

I should have looked at you much longer... longer than I could remember.

My eyes took a snapshot �"

Of you, in a hat

A smile so genuine;

And a face -- not in-between;

 

So easy, I fell without a gear

And love’s bell chimed in my ear

Reality becomes a dream

All I see were in gleam

 

Yet a thought loomed in my head

Pain he’ll bring -- as it said.

My mind was a great enemy;

Leaving me with uncertainty

 

The moment enchanted --

Is the day to be cursed

For when your eyes ran to my way;

I chose to look away.

A gorgeous poem. It is so true that in the heat of the moment, we lose focus and sight. Then to walk away, we lose the one chance. I have those regrets too. It is natural and you point that you point that out marvelously.

You say the poem is simple, but it is very effective. I love many of the lines, 'Reality becomes a dream.', 'Yet a thought loomed in my head'. 'I chose to look away'. So many times we look away, and then wonder what could have been. Well written.

My favorite line is "my eyes took a snapshot". That is a really good line. Is this one of those moments when you spot someone in public and wonder "what if?" I didn't understand the statement "fell without gear"...maybe because of our cultural differences...could you explain?
