A Shower in the DarkA Poem by Erin Skyso, this one time, Lacy walked in to the bathroom while I was showering. She learned I shower in the dark :)
Hide my pesky inequalities like you hide the ravages of time And disguise the day with oscuration She comes in— lights a candle, a spark plug and somehow its soft and warming blackness better than death and sleep (no dreaming) And there’s a thousand sunsets on my skin As water slides and quivers, cell by cell making clear tracks between joints and curves and stretching out hair for the ladders of princes carving deltas in my toes, cascades from my fingers Sinking back into the ocean, via a storm drain Or hangs around, robing naked air (so very shy and blushing) keeping me warm as drizzle on microbial civilisations filling me with dawn and such (or was it dusk) and still slipping like children in the mud trailing a memory of me, a soaked body stark A shower in the dark © 2008 Erin SkyReviews
