First, let me say I love it. And then food for thought: I love the ending. And also, when I read the word "BRIDGE" > I thought, that's their bridge, thus cross OUR bridge, once steady and strong...? something, was thinking about the foundation of their bridge - once concreted, cemented, (by the best engineers) no cracks in that foundation, the cables, strong, they would never fall. Suspension Bridges. Maybe that's silly: I love this poem, you are a great writer. I see the song writing in the continueing of what is almost like a chorus. I was in this poem, myself, thinking of my past, and it is so relatable in a throw away world. I love the theme, the start, the change in tone...led me to more emotional sadness and then as I hoped, you gave them a chance to begin anew. I take marriage very seriously; the message is quite beautiful. Thank you so much - Oh and lastly sorry: please don't take offense; I have errors in posted poetry now: (too) late for a new start. I love this. Like you said, it is so hard to resist southern Thinkin! Thank you again.

Well written again, my friend! Too many people nowadays marry for the wrong reasons. Too many people rush into marriage before they ever have the chance to get to know one another. They rush to have kids before they even figure out how to live together without much issue.
This is why I am thankful of my husband's understanding. We have known each other for nearly 8 years. We have been together for 5 and married for 3. Still no kids yet, as we are waiting until we are more financially stable.
We don't want to rush anything, because we want our kids to grow up in a house with hardly any arguments or yelling. We want our kids to have a stable environment that won't change once they are grown. We want our kids to see how marriage really works. How they should treat others in a way that won't cause harm mentally or physically. It won't be perfect, we know that, but we can always strive for it.
Sorry I'm rambling. Great work!

I am sixty years old and I am going to share with you what a man I met on a city bus expressed to me just a few years back and I am at least 30 years his senior. He said that we fall in-love and get married, then once the children come we tend to fall out of love, and once the children go out from the nest you find yourselves walking down the beach or in a park and you hold hands again as you're walking and this is when you fall in-love again. You had enjoyed something in the beginning when you first held hands try revisiting those times even if you just go for coffee and pie try to recall when you first realized that you loved each other nice poem

This is great, man! I liked how you started out with that part from the Christmas story, and I really liked how it progressed, even if it didn't end so well for you. My favorite parts were the last four stanzas (is that what you call them?), from "And now it's time for the fall" until the end. Great job.

I am glad you liked it,very seldom do I write about me,just life as I see it
thank you
It seems impossible that the heat of first love can turn so toxic over a period of time. Children do take time away from parents and the effect of that becomes evident when they grow up and find their own lives. It is only hard work from both parties that can sustain a relationship.
Nice work and food for thought.

Truth or fiction. If the truth, go for counseling together or a preacher that you trust. If not then you seemed to hit the nail on the head with the rate of marriages failing. A good write and one to get people to stop and think. Valentine
