Unrivaled SacrificeA Poem by L. HaddenI wrote this one year and entered it in an EFY poetry contest. I was sick with the flu, lying awake at two in the morning. I was thinking about one of workshops about the Savior and our personal relationship with Him. This poem was the result of my ponder
One night I saw a scene, a vision meant for me, In the quiet of my room, with eyes shut reverently. My thoughts came to the Savior, I longed to really know What He had done for me, on that night so long ago. An image just as clear as day, appeared inside my mind. My Lord was kneeling by a tree, His face was pained and lined. It shone with anguish and great strife, but faith and love were there. He pled to the Father in that hour, His voice lifted in prayer. Beads of crimson trailed his skin, I wished Him spared of grief. The sting of death eternal, from which He was saving me. He asked that all my sins be His, He mentioned me by name. I looked at Him, He looked at me. My heart filled up with pain. I had caused His suffering; the blood He bled was mine, But He gave me a look of comfort and told me it was fine. I'll ne'er forget that piercing gaze that saw my private heart. Or the awe of gratitude and hope I felt within me start. The pains and sorrows that he bore, for me it was designed. He made way for us all to have our future lives refined. The vision cleared, the scene grew dim, I knelt with trembling heart. With an overwhelming ache of love, I whispered, "Thank you,” as a start. © 2008 L. Hadden |
