The hour rolls over again.
The only sound a stray echoing thought
words and pictures filter through.
My face and fingers go numb,
the slow poison starting to take hold.
Even as the flesh tingles, the mind races.
The hour rolls over again.
Sleep, the myth denied.
More poison, more numb...
If only I could slow it down
maybe I could make sense of it
make peace with it.
The hour.  Again.
The sun is coming, I can feel it through the haze
details sharpening as the night fades
A single thought forms within the chaos
I try to wash it down again.
Some paths are better not travelled.
The hour rolls over again.
My body screams for rest,
the alcohol giving its voice volume.
Yet even when I lay down,
a single thought from within the chaos...
will I ever sleep again?
