One More Chance

One More Chance

A Poem by C.Elle

One More Chance

The thunder makes me shiver
As the rain begins to fall
The hallways, for once, are silent
As emptiness fills the hall

I crawl on hands and knees
Afraid I won't reach the stairs
Once I do, my fingers slip
And I tumble through the air

The ground below just waits
To catch me without fail
It's this prison that I fear
Though the windows beat with hail

The doors open wide
Without a request or plea
It willingly assists
And I reach up off my knees

A turning point begins
A decision must be made
Tragedy or Blame
I have to fall one way

A nightmare to face alone,
Or a world of clouds and rage
Drama within walls
Or wars without a stage

As moments disappear
I ponder such a choice
A reputation I'll receive
Weak without a voice

The classrooms enfold around me
As I surrender to its lies
Crowds with masks so clear
As I just laugh at their disguise

The rain will no more tempt me
Although some days I'll glance
I'll grasp on to the rails
I'll give this one more chance
