Dream Theater "The Road"

Dream Theater "The Road"

A Poem by Brandon Dunbar

Dusk is upon us
Clouds filling up the sky
Sunlight will soon vanish
Raindrops begin to fly

Driving the dark winding road
Headlights shine to lead the way
Eyes getting heavier each minute
My consciousness starts to fade

In the blink of an eye
Something sinister appears
A story of nightmares
The epitome of your fears

I jam the car into park
Scared of whats to come
Why has it chosen me,
Where did it come from?

Blood red eyes staring
Stalking towards the driver's side
Locking my doors won't help
Nowhere left to hide

Frozen now with fear
A glimpse thru the fog
The stature of a man
The ferocity of a dog

This can't be right
Werewolves aren't real
Life full of surprises
Monsters weren't part of the deal

Panic grips me tight now
As a claw runs down the door
It starts to claw at the window
My foot slams to the floor

Car takes off in a screech
Now wide awake with fear
Hands glued to the wheel
My house is drawing near

I finally make it home
Disbelief of what occurred
Nothing can be explained
Not a single descriptive word

Trek the stairs to my room
Falling forward onto my bed
Only to then realize
It was all in my head

My eyes opening now
Nothing is what it seemed
I have survived another night
Just another crazy dream
