The Chance

The Chance

A Poem by Claire

The chance we have today
May soon fade away

How long will this chance last
When will we finally start this task

How much damage can one planet take
How much longer till our planet is baked

There is no time to sit and wait
That will surely just lead us straight to our grim fate

Will the time we spent waiting
And all the days full of hesitating
Lead us to endless time spent hating and hating

How much longer will we have our Earth
In the end how much will our accomplishments be worth

Will we no longer able to breathe
Because of the lack of plants and trees

Will the ducks still swim in pools of oil
Will the heat in the air make our skin boil
Will we watch our plan for our future foil

Will the sound of laughter ever be heard
Will we look back on our past and find our choices absurd

Will the time we waste today
Be the reason we fade away

Will the twinkle in your eye
Still make it impossible for me to say goodbye

Will the words you whisper in my ears
Still eliminate all of my fears

Will the stars we watch up in the sky
Get duller and duller until they fall down and die

Will the grass we walk on and the flowers we smell
Still be there in that burning hell

Will the lions and tigers still be free
Will our world last even one more century

Though the time the worst may come
Seems very far away

There’s no time to act dumb
The danger’s on its way

So don’t just sit there on your couch and stare
There are things you can do to help everywhere

There is no time to sit and delay
This chance we have may soon fade away
