The Battle

The Battle

A Poem by Claire

We each line up our soldiers out in the field

Mine against her's

Princess against Princess

Brother against brother

Our armies are not equal

Not fair in size or weapondry

She has the advantage

The useless queen stands on the sidelines

Just waiting for one daughter to demolish the other

Not willing to get her hands dirty to save a life

A shot sounds

The war has begun

The other princess fires the first blow

My men are armed with naught but sheilds and words

They try to protect themselves the best they can

But they do not fight back

For they do not have the strength to fight their brothers

Their brothers who have turned into huge scary ogres

My army quickly looses men

But they stand tall and wear out the ogres

The ogres transform back and realize who they are fighting

The war sieces for two years

In those two years the brothers live in harmony

With a little fight here

And a minor dispute there

The battle has calmed

But not yet sieced

The battle has been fought

But not yet won

So for two years my army ignores the pain and lives side by side with their brothers

But a long and cold winter comes

And with that marks the beginning of flashbacks and gorey memories of their brothers as mean violent ogres

The memories don't stop and dreams soon follow

My army now prepares to meet their brothers again

But this time not in the field

This time in the town square

The armies of brothers meet but this time it's different

This time my army has grown

Grown in size and smarts

My army now includes regular towns people

Ready to fight

The queen has also changed

She now stands with my men

Ready to protect

Ready to get her hands dirty

Ready to fight

This time it's different

There will be no blows

No more violence

This time they will fight with words

This time there will be no ogres

Or deadly weapons

This time my men have to win

This time my men will win
