I Wish I Could Forget You

I see your eyes looking back at me in the faces of busy students who pass me on the side walk.

I hear your name on the lips of strangers in the crowds of hustling city tourists.

I dream of you in the deepest of sleeps that feel more real than when I'm awake.

You follow me wherever I go, and try as I might, I just can't forget you.

Oh I wish I could forget you.

You taunt me with your presence, making me feel high as I stand in your light, then breathless when you leave.

You leave a tormenting hole of anguish in my center where I wish your love resided.

Even now as I write, I can barely put words to paper, for you paralyze my fingers and steal my oxygen right out of my lungs!

I wish you would leave me be.

I wish you would let me get on with my life.

But secretly,

I wish you would love me the way I desperately and achingly love you.
