Bits and Pieces

Bits and Pieces

A Story by Zi
"

Just bits of thoughts I couldn't form any larger than they were. They're perfect this size, but needed to be presented in such a manner as to not misconstrue them as unimportant.

"

I miss the smell of saltwater and cigarettes. They remind me of people I love. They bring back memories of walking along the beach with friends, or sitting huddled against the wind so the match stays lit, minor things that are just a part of life. Life isn’t the big moments. Life is what happens in between those moments. It’s the journey from place to place, time to time, person to person, that shows us who we are.

I witnessed the elements in their raw form. I drank crystal clear water straight from an underground stream, felt a cool breeze on a hot summer day, and fought the current of a mighty river. I hiked up a wooded mountain and created fire from the fallen trees around me. I saw shooting stars fall and I watched lightning strike the earth. I did all this in the company of another human soul. My spirit is revived by the spirit of the world.

Knotted string in colors supreme

Forming bands to show bonds

Of friendship with a smile

As we laugh all the while
