Subjectively, the first line refers to the act of "assumption."
The second line represents the "failure" to understand the "truth" about someone.
The last line is the perfected punchline; the grand finale of "self actualization."

FAVORITE QUOTE

"Fails to listen to its own song."

Honestly, this is my favorite line of the whole poem because it gives it the "lyrical" feel to the poem. It allows the reader to:

1. Connect
2. Appreciate
3. Love

CONCLUSION

Primarily, the "Mind" is a complex organism. However, "human beings" will forever remain "animals" of nature.

FINAL THOUGHTS

You are a wonderful teacher.
You are a beautiful poet.

The "Mind" is like a parable for me from the literal and metaphorical standpoint.

This reads a bit to me as if you are saying the mind is failing to follow the beat of it's own drum (individual thoughts and ideas) and following along with another's/others beat instead.
Did I read it correctly?

Perhaps you know yourself better than you think. How could you have penned such a thing if you didn't? As you say, you just haven't been listening is all.
