Tripped Up

Tripped Up

A Poem by Alex Davis

Tripped up

Sun’s up, It’s a beautiful day,

Strutting through my life, feeling quite nice,

You’re looking fine, if you don’t mind my say

Let’s take a walk, no don’t think twice

You bring a smile to my face,

You send a chill down my spine,

Yeah girl, let’s keep this pace,

I love my time, with this baby of mine,

What’s that? You’ve got to go?

That’s not how you feel? It’s just not the same?

A trip in my step, so confident, just a moment ago,

My feelings of elation gone just as fast as they came,

Rump on the ground, head in my hands,

This fall really stung, but I don’t have to show it,

I pick myself up and brush off my brands,

Hands in my pocket, head slung down in forfeit,

I begin my journey back, alone and colder,

I think about the past and wish for the future,

Then, with a sigh of my gut and a shrug of my shoulder,

I smile once again, at the thought of a picture,

You’ll be back tomorrow to walk my quarter mile,

We’ll talk and we’ll laugh, feel warm and free,

I’ll love it while it lasts, if only for a while,

The trip is worth the fall, how I feel with thee
