The Bakery

A Poem by Kelli Wyatt

"

A child gazes up through the thin glass.
The bakery's display was being put out for the start of the day.
She tugs at her mother's long skirts,
and begs hopefully.
"But they're good!" she protests,
her mother turning her ear.
"Come, child. You do not need sweets this early."
Disappointment floods her eyes,
and she steals one last look through the shop.

About
I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
