Field of Flowers (Pt. 2): A Fork in the Path

"

All of the flowers that once stood firm their ground,
are bowing over in submission.

This path was once covered by prim flowers.
But now they have been trampled on
one too many times.
For we've been walking in circles,
stepping on every flower we could see.

Glancing back and over our shoulders,
we can see nothing.
The fog is too thick,
and the sun up above gives it a heavy glow.
And it blinds us.

Ours eyes scan over the defeated flowers.
And slowly we realize:
There is a path.
But now we're stopped where we stand,
and we see a fork in the road.

It's a fairy-tale, almost.
To our left we see the path,
dark and raining.
The flowers are beaten down,
yet they have the hope
to once again be prim and strong.

To our right we see the path,
illuminated by a blazing fire.
The flowers sufficate,
and surrender to the heat.
But their scarred ashes also have hope.
A hope to be renewed.

And we look up
as a single peddle floats by
and brushes our noses.

I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
