Ripples

Ripples

"

Simply a toe shaping ripples across the water's surface.
Falling in or sinking slowly,
Willingly engulfed by the water's grasp,
As white fog reflects the sun.
A face shimmering like liquid glass,
Allowing you to see through to its soul.
So pure.
So simple.

Yet reach for the hand that calls your name.
A voice so sweet.
But as bloody battles wage,
The water holds fast.
So clean.
So easy.

Don't wait for the sun to shatter the fog.
Grasp the hand which you know as your own.
Lift from the water,
Your lips shivering and blue.
They shalled be warmed.

Simply a toe shaping ripples across the water's surface.
Rising out above the pain,
Setting free away from the cold.
See the face for what it truly is.
A lie if it appears a clean soul,
But something to be feared instead.
Just a black film.
Remove this from yourself.

I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
