Depths
This isn't what you think.
The water here is more dangerous
Than you could ever guess,
For even the light of the mighty sun
Is swallowed up by the depths of the ocean.

It was once an appealing thought,
But now something truly repulsive.
Swimming here will only show your weakness.
It's something uncontrollable,
When it is that which controls you.

In this ocean,
The fish cannot breathe.

Curse
A curse
One which was never put upon you,
Not even by yourself.
You were born with this,
And you must carry it on your own.

No matter how you've wished for it,
This display of humanity,
It will never come forth.
And it makes no difference,
How far down you sink.
You will never truly drown.

Never by your own warmth,
Nor the lack thereof,
But by the billowing of only foreign winds.

It seems no amount of warfare
Can ever change anything.
You will always hear
The beat of your own heart,
And you will never drown by your own hand.

About
I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
