"

The sun rises.
Your eyes open slowly.
A yawn.
Relaxation turns sour.
A stretch.

Turn the bacon.
The sizzle purely alive.
A pop.
Throw on some eggs.
They smolder.

Start the engine.
It relents.
A roar.
Shift the gear.
It clicks.

Walk through the dorr.
Mundane smiles creep toward you.
The dread.
Sit down.
Wheels roll.

Drive on home.
Forget your manners.
Scream obscenities.
No one knowns.

Set the table
where no one eats.
Little white dishes.
They clink.
Clear the table.
Utensils scream.

Walk up the stairs.
Avoid a longing gaze.
The sights.
Wash your face.
The pain.

Lay you head to rest.
Weary eyes keep open
Denying sleep.
Night hits fast.
My refuge.

I started writing free-form poetry in high school. Most of my poems have darker themes - those are the personal ones. If they have a lighter theme, chances are it was a contest prompt of some sort. .. more..
