Pedestal

Pedestal

Do you have any idea?
So many were before you.
They all look close as you,
but you'll never know.

Stale green eyes,
they'll always look forward.
But with one foot in the grave,
that pedestal looks so inviting.

Now tell me friend,
why are we still here?
We have yet to wash our hands,
still covered in mud.

And answer me this:
Is the future so impossible?
It truly seems close
that we're stuck like this.

And do you have any idea?
For all that we've been through,
that pedestal looks so inviting,
and there have been none to follow.

I enjoyed this one, very thought provocking and so many unanswerable questions. Although the afore mentioned pedistal is quite a mystery.
