I See Stars

I look into the sky, once scattered with stars

They gleamed from a distance, twinkled from afar

They shined with joy

Illuminated with hope

They glistened like tears, from the happiest of jokes

They spoke like laughter

They chased away fears

They slowly faded into the darkness throughout the years

 

Clouded by broken dreams, by those who can’t sleep

Drowned by the tears of loved ones, holding on to what they could never keep

Chased away by lies that where darker than white had ever been

Fading into the darkness, sinking before they swim
