Sleep

Sleep

A Poem by D. Jones

sleep has feigned its friendship i fear

for the slow whisper of the sandman i do not hear

restlessly, my body language clamors

but all i hear are the clocks hammers

each click a tick towards  slumber

but each tick a tock too late i wonder

i stare into darkness, more out than in

wishing that the lights would go out within
