I like a hard-boiled hero or anti-hero. He's doomed and he knows it, but plugs along anyway. I have designs on self-embarrassment by imitating my writing heroes, Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammet. I like the book and the movies that usher in nothing but rain, shadows, whiskey, and lipstick.
