1) My Home

A Chapter by Burr the Story Sorceress

On the plant Venderas there are four great contents that are ruled by four great races.

The Eastern and Western Contents, otherwise known as the Sister Contents, are the largest. These two stretch from pole to pole and the bulk of Venderas' pupation resides here. On the Eastern Content are the countries of Ever-Water Dale in the north, Thorn Point in the south, and Amardes nestled in between. Talloren, Galos, and Natar are on the Western Content.

On the Sister Contents live the Palmen and the Dersoni. The Palmen are also known as humans and are magic-less and rather weak. They make up for their weaknesses in numbers. For every one member of the other races there are at least ten Palmen. Palmen also have mastered the art of making and wielding weapons of all kinds. Dersoni are serpentine dragons, snakes with transparent fins and metal beaks and wings. These great creatures are the only remains of the great species that protected the Palmen during the Second Great Elemental War.

The island nation of Kincur lies in the southern seas between the Sister Contents. Kincur is considered the most beautiful place in all Venderas. The coast is all white beaches and clear waters. The center of the island is a range of mountains that are impossible to scale beyond the middle slopes. The land between sheer cliffs and peaceful beaches are rolling hills and fields of crop. Few Palman live here, but many visit to enjoy the beauty of the place.

This island is home to the Elementals, wielders of the Great Elements' powers. These peoples have been at each other throats since the Second Great Elemental War. The Light Users, lead by their Royal Unicorn-Dragon Pairs, had been attacking the Adepts up until three hundred ad twenty years ago when the Balance, queen of the Adepts, gave up her life to stop the slaughter. Since their queen's death, the Adepts have been led by the Adept Council and the Council Leader.

Last, but not least, is Mymir, my homeland. While Kincur is in the Middle Sea, the stretch of water between the Sister Contents, my home is in the heart of the Dark Ocean, named for its deep, navy blue waters. Mymir isn't really a content. It is a huge collection of islands ranging from the size of Kincur to barely big enough for a house to be built there. Some are close enough that you can swim to and others are weeks apart by boat.

Palmen live here, tons of us. The other residents, our neighbors, are the Amilas tribes. The Amilas people are shape shifters. Each Amilas, depending on their personalities, can become an animal. When they aren't n their animal form, Amilas look just like a Palmen, except that they have some animal feature like a tail or wings. The tribes are huge and normally settle on very large or close together islands and each tribe has it's own king.

I am a Palmen living in the Mymir Islands. The Palmen have banded together and are ruled by one emperor and his advisers. The advisers are elected for each section of islands and the advisers are in charge of the army. Ever since Palmen came to Mymir a few hundred years after the Second Great Elemental War my people have feared and marveled at the Amilas tribes. We Palmen are weak compared to our neighbors. We are easily frightened and we are very judgmental and shamefully greedy. Many Palmen hate the Dersoni, Elementals, and Amilas peoples because they are so powerful and we are not. My emperor is one of these hateful people.

For twenty years Emperor Hisdin has trained all under his power that the Amilas, the closest race of power, are evil, heartless beast and nothing more.

For twenty years Emperor Hisdin has been building an army to rival the great Palmen armies of the Sister Contents.

For twenty years Emperor Hisdin has been ordering the murder of the Amilas tribes.

I am ashamed to call Emperor Hisdin my father.

For the first twenty years of my life I had almost believed him, I had felt I had to believe him because he was my father. What kind of daughter would I be if I called my father a blind fool? How dishonorable would I have been to have ignored all he did for me and betray him like that?

But things changed. I am told that I am too kind for my own good, too gentle for a worrier, too sweet to be the heir of the Mymir Emperor. Maybe they're right. Maybe I am too soft. I don't know. I don't know if what my father's advisers say is a compliment or an insult.

I do know one thing, thought. King Grayson Crow of the largest Amilas bird tribe in Mymir doesn't think ill of me.

Wonderful first chapter. Great work on creating the awsome places and stuff! And since you mention it a few times, I found myself wondering what the hell is the Second Elemental War? (As you can tell, I really want to hear moare about that).
