Chapter 2: Tatsu

Yanhmi Ra

He must be here somewhere! Search for him Everywhere, we cannot let him go!” Why must this happen now of all the time? Right now, dealing with a thief is not ideal to say the very least. With all the controversy around the Egyptian Army’s new leader being-

“Sir Yanhmi! We cannot find the thief anywhere in the palace...” A guard interrupted my train of thought in that moment while a few others fell in uniform behind him.

“Find him at all costs, we cannot let a felon walk free among the home of a Pharaoh.” and most importantly can’t let him steal

That necklace. “Remember, he has long yellow hair and is wearing a white mask.”

The guards leave in different directions for a chance to catch the thief leaving one of the guards behind.

“Sir, could you tell us what he stole?”

“No. I said, leaving him to join the search myself. No ordinary guard should know about it, at least not yet. That’s what m

Lady told me.

As I passed by the luxurious halls the rumors were already circulating ‘Must be a bad Omen.’ ‘This must be all happening because the Lord let a woman lead the army’. How much does lady Cléo need to endure because of this lowlife sneaking in?

It was already hard enough without any turmoil, but this incident is fuming the flames. If this keeps going on she will lose her position quite early and our plans with the necklace will fail

The number of wide doors to various rooms slowly decreases as I walk forward. The door I just passed opened slightly, the sound catching in my ears as turned around immediately to find... “You!” The thief! He was clearly not that old from his height and voice; his mild yellow hair was unusual for these parts just like his mask and clothes.

“Oh, you found me...I really thought I would get away” His sarcastic tone kept infuriating me to no end as I pointed my spear to his neck.

“Answer me! Where are you from?!” The rage I felt was evident in my voice, but the boy did not care or maybe he did, but the mask and his condescending tone made me believe otherwise.

“Sorry, I can’t tell you that”

I struck him in the neck, but the hit didn’t land. “Wha-”

Behind you, but either way even if I told you there’s nothing you could do about it”

He’s fast! I struck behind me without bothering to face him first, but it didn’t land again.

“Little rude to interrupt when I’m answering your questions.”

Left

“Bad aim.”

No, right! My spear struck the air as I missed again.

“What were you guys planning with this necklace anyway?” He pulled out the necklace as its Ruby jewel shined in the dim torch light.

“That is not for you to know, Lowlife!” I thrust my spear straight for his head but once again he vanished before the strike hit, instead piercing the wall in front of me. “Give that back, because of you everything she’s been plotting will go to waste!”

“Woah, you’re strong! Still, no use if you can’t hit your target, right? And who’s ‘she’?”

“Your mocking voice grates my ears, how about you fight like you did back in the treasury, Coward?” I say pulling out my spear from the mud wall

“You saw that?” For the first time in this fight, he sounded genuinely confused and human.

How about you strike me like you struck all my guards?! Come at me instead of running away!”

“Ok”

That inhumane tone again. How could someone be so unserious in a dire predicament? Unsettling doesn’t begin to describe it.

He put his hands to the front of his chest, summoning a strange sword of some kind and struck my neck in a flash... Nothing happened.

Seems like the only thing you’re good at is being fast on your feet-” Oh.

A lock of my hair fell to the ground along with my head’s armor, the blood around my neck spilling as I collapsed to the floor on my knees. I had never been more humiliated.

This man was strong. “What is... your name...?” I asked through my pain, to die without knowing who was responsible is even more humiliating.

Tatsu, Good night”

The commotion drew the other guard's attention, and the last thing I saw before blacking out was him facing them as his sword shifted shape.

In all of Valhalla, I had never thought this was how I’d meet my end.
