3A Chapter by Tina KlineThe air was so cold it shocked my lungs with my first few breaths. I put my scarf over my face, just leaving my eyes exposed. But not for long. I put on dark glasses and started walking. The snow made a soft crunching like sound as I trudged through it. More snow was falling. The coyotes were still singing nearby and so was the owl whooting. The lake drew me. It was a mysterious desire that I felt There was nothing special about the lake. I hadn't been there since the snow had started falling I kept going, hearing rustling in the snow draped pine forest round me. Something was close by. A deer or elk, I figured. In the distance I heard the haunting cry of a wolf. I felt no fear. None of the local wildlife would harm me. The sky grew lighter. Tiny birds started peeping in the snow covered leafless bushes. The lake was close The forest was thinning out. Then I was there. The sky was a light grey now. I stood there, staring at the lake. It was blood red! I was shocked. Stunned. I felt hot. I stared at the blood red lake. I was breathing fast. Was it blood? The sky was grey with patches of morning blue but there was was no red from a sunrise. I caught movement nearby. I stared. Someone or something was watching me. Who or what was watching me I didn't know. I saw a figure, almost humanlike. Mysterious. Yet I felt no fear. It was like I was living out my d ream. Then the figure seemed to fade into the shadows. “Stacey! Stacey!” I turned. Roger was calling me. The spell was broken. I turned and hurried back. I wasn't about to ask Roger if he could see the blood red lake.
