A Chapter by Tina Kline

I came around a large cluster of snow draped trees and several large snow covered boulders encounter Roger pushing his way through the snow, following the tracks I had made.

“Stacey!” he yelled, “Why are you out here?”

“I wanted to walk. I felt restless.” He put his arms around me to gently steer me back to the cabin.

“You should have waited for me.”

“I just wanted to go when I wanted to go, not to wait.” I said. I felt the depression surge in me. I thought of the blood filled lake and the figure, A mysterious figure. Like a man, but not quite. I wondered.

“Well, I have the generator going. The cabin is warm. We can have a nice hot breakfast.”

I could faintly hear the sound of the generator in the distance. But over that I heard the howl of the wolf. It rose high on the now light grey dawn sky. I thought it sounded pretty. I knew Roger didn't think so. He hated wolves . He'd shoot them if he could. Good thing the wolves were protected by Oregon state law when they weren’t by federal law anymore.

Then the cabin came into view. It was all lit up with smoke swirling out of the chimney intermingling with the falling snow. Birds were busy eating at the bird feeders. We went up the porch steps and Roger gently urged me toward the front door. I paused and looked back in the direction of the lake. I wondered. Did I really see a lake of blood and a mysterious figure there or was I hallucinating?

Awesome horror/fantasy. I'm enjoying this dark write a lot.

After the strange exhilarating adventure at the blood red lake then having to return to the boring now noisy cabin....not good, not good at all.

Ah, the self doubt enters but the curiosity and wanting to know won't fade. The lake calls....and the dark creature lurking there waiting..good writing here.

Like the distant wolf howling. Perhaps it will play an important role in the story. Roger who was once cool is now a drag. Good story.
