11A Chapter by Tina Kline“What are you?” I cried, backing away the best I could on my knees in the snow. My heart was pounding and my breathing was labored. And I was in terror over the strange sensations coursing throughout my entire body. Even in my fingers and toes. The man creature just stood there smiling at me. “What does it matter? You partook of the lake's waters. You will never be the same now.” I noticed the wolf's' howling was much closer. And I noticed the snow draped trees had many moving dark patches in their branches. Crows and ravens. I stumbled back some more. I needed to flee, to think about what was happening The male creature kept watching me, unmoving and so inhuman. “Don't worry. You will be okay.” The man creature sad in its strange voice. For some reason I believed him. I believed what he said. I turned toward the direction of the cabin. Roger came to mind. I should return. Night was closing in. Roger would come looking for me. Did I want him to find me? How odd I should even wonder that. The raven and crows moved in closer, dislodging snow from the branches as they did. The howling was was very close now. So were a pair of yapping coyotes. “What are you?” I asked again, in a calmer voice. He smiled, “What is your name.” “Stacey.” “I'm Dartman.” “What an odd name.” “Humans wouldn't be able to pronounce my real name.” “So you’re not human.” I knew he wasn't but I wanted to hear him confirm it. “No.” “What's happening to me? How 'd this lake get filled with blood?” I asked. I knew it was blood now without a doubt. Weird blood. Darkman smiled, a broad smile that spread across his face. I was shocked to see how sharp and pointed his teeth were.
