19A Chapter by Tina Kline
When I woke or became aware, however it was, I knew the generator was off but I did not feel cold. I felt neither hot or cold. Dartman sat beside me, watching me. Everything was different. The way I looked at things, the scent of things, my hearing, my thinking, my body. I sat up in bed. My movements were fluid and without effort. I just sat up without any help from my body. And I was hungry, terribly hungry. I looked at Dartman. “Welcome to my world.” Dartman said. “Your world?” “Look around you. Is this really your world anymore?” I looked at the bedroom and all it held. It seemed alien, clumsy and unattractive. There was no appeal here for me. “I understand.” "I knew you would.” he slid off the bed. “We leave now.” I slid off the bed to follow him. “Where are we going?” “To my world. Now your world.” Dartman answered. I followed him to the cabin door. “Go out a ways and wait for me. I am removing this cabin from this world.” “What are you going to do with it?” “Go. Don't be afraid of the wolf and coyotes. They are part of my world too, as well as the crows and ravens. You will understand when you see them.” I nodded and headed out the door. The animals waited. But they weren't animals anymore. But aliens like Dartman. What kind of alien? I felt I'd understand soon. Shape shifters came to mind. Unafraid I hurried through them away from the cabin like Dartman told me to do.
