Blessings I Carry

I received my highest care
when my father-in-law came from India
all the way to Houston
to see me when I was sick.

I received the greatest love
from my mother-in-law
when she came to see
me and my son.

I felt the warm affection
of my sister-in-law
when she held me close
during my hardest days.

When he came to take me home,
I felt I was the best person to him�"
welcomed with care
and trusted with love.

Their blessings stay with me,
making me a beautiful member
of this family.

My cousins teased me
for my village accent and simple ways,
yet every smile carried affection.

I remember the day
my husband introduced me
to every relative by name,
and I received their blessings
one by one.

Now I live near an army base
in the quiet civilian area.
I miss them all�"
each and every one.

At night I sleep
holding their hugs and love
inside my heart.

And I want to say only one thing:
please don’t mourn
if anything ever happens to me.

Just keep your love with me,
so I can face this war
and return
to a safe ending.
